| 宮崎県日之影町の竹細工は、南日本、九州山脈の山間に暮しそれを編み続けて来た田舎のかご職人の「技と魂」を物語り、更に、それを使い実り豊かな山村の素朴な暮らしにいそしんで来た人々の生活の有様を物語る、学術資料価値を備えた貴重な民具となっております。これらの民具は、スミソニアン国立自然史博物館（The National Museum of Natural History)に収蔵された後、アメリカ合衆国内、ヨーロッパの美術館（博物館）で開催された展覧会で、その民具自体がもつ美しさが世界中の人々に徐々に理解され、今日では、日本を代表する素晴らしい職人文化のひとつになろうとしています。 |
| The bamboo crafts displayed in the Hinokkage Basket Museum are interwoven with life in the mountains of Kyushu. Their construction tells of the skill and spirit of their makers, as well as of the simple farming life in a mountain town. Today their academic value as representative‘people’s tools’ that respond directly to the necessities of daily life and agricultural production is recognized by their inclusion in the Smithsonian Intuition’s Museum of National History in Washington, D.C., the British Museum, in London, and numerous exhibitions through North America and Europe.Through their beauty and craftsmanship these baskets have served as representatives of Japan’s craft‐making traditions to the world. |
